Cognitive Assessments

Find calm, clarity, and practical tools for everyday life. Together, we can build the bridge to a better you.

About our Cognitive Assessments

Cognitive assessments, which are commonly referred to as “IQ tests”, provide insight into an individual’s ability to think and reason. It involves the administration of different tasks that measure a person’s language, problem-solving, memory and processing speed abilities. A cognitive assessment can also identify whether an individual meets the criteria for a diagnosis of intellectual developmental disorder (i.e., intellectual disability) or global developmental delay (GDD).

Bridging Psychology conduct cognitive assessments for ages between 2.5 years old and 50+-year-old.

Assessments usually include multiple interviews with the individual or parent/caregiver and any other relevant professional in the person’s life. Review of relevant documents and consultations. A written, comprehensive and tailored report of the results, diagnosis and recommendations with a final feedback session. This requires our clinicians to engage in 9 hours of work. If your assessment is complex and we estimate more time is needed, we will inform you about the need for an additional session as early as possible in the assessment process.

Please get in touch with the clinic to discuss tailoring the assessment specific to your needs.

What's the Process at Bridging Psychology

Getting started is straightforward. Simply book online or phone our intake team and, if you intend to claim a Medicare rebate, upload your GP Mental Health Care Plan. Our referral step takes only a few minutes. Within two to four weeks we arrange an initial consultation in which your psychologist explores your background, clarifies the changes you want to see and sets an agreed treatment roadmap. Therapy then settles into weekly or fortnightly sessions that always tailored to your goals. Every six sessions we pause to review progress, adjust objectives and prepare any reports required for your GP. When you are satisfied with the gains made, we either move to occasional appointments or conclude with a practical self-care plan that supports your ongoing wellbeing.
